Conférence de presse à Doha des organisateurs d'une nouvelle traversée du Free Gaza pour briser le siège de Gaza.

En trois jours, l'association Free Gaza a parcouru plus de 440 km depuis Chypre vers Gaza, sa huitième mission pour briser le siège draconien qu'Israël impose à 1,5 millions de Palestiniens. Fidèle à l'esprit de FREE GAZA et de SPIRIT FOR HUMANITY, nous allons livrer des tonnes de ciment et de caisses remplies de jouets, de crayons et d'albums à colorier pour les enfants, tous produits interdits par le gouvernement israélien.

Deux des organisateurs, Huwaida Arraf et Greta Berlin, ainsi que la députée Cynthia McKinney, ancienne membre du congrès américain de l'état de Georgie, ont tenu une conférence de presse hier à Doha au Quatar. Toutes les trois ont appelé le monde à reconnaître les droits de l'homme et les droits de citoyens des palestiniens, droits qui leur sont déniés depuis soixante et un ans.

« Les gens de Gaza sont condamnés à vivre dans des conditions qui font d'eux des sous hommes. Les enfants meurent, et les gouvernements gardent le silence. Il est important de continuer à envoyer des bateaux à Gaza pour lutter contre le blocus criminel, renforcé par l'armée israélienne », a déclaré Mme Arraf.

Le groupe a souligné que ce qu'il apporte n'est qu'un geste symbolique par rapport aux besoins du peuple de Gaza. Il espère acheter un cargo pour apporter de plus grandes quantités de matériel de construction via les voies qu'il a l'intention d'ouvrir. Il demande le soutien financier des peuples du monde pour l'achat de ce bateau.

Parlant à Al Jazeera et à huit autres groupes d'information, Madame Arraf a souligné « les donateurs internationaux espèrent plus de 4 milliards de dollars pour reconstruire Gaza, mais aucun d'entre eux ne fait rien à propos d'Israël qui n'autorise l'entrée d'aucun matériel de construction. C'est pourquoi 36 d'entre nous, venus de 16 pays, partons jeudi pour demander au monde de faire quelque chose ».

Quand on leur demande quelles garanties le groupe a reçues du gouvernement israélien, Berlin et Arraf froncent les sourcils : « Nous ne demandons pas de permissionaux autorités israéliennes. Israël a trop abusé de son autorité de puissance occupante, qui viole quotidiennement les droits des Palestiniens et qui impose des punitions collectives. Il est plus que temps pour la communauté internationale de cesser d'encourager la politique illégale de blocus menée par Israël » a conclu Mme Arrag.

L'association a l'intention de se rendre à Gaza au moins trois fois au cours de l'été. ; le 25 juin, le 14 juillet et le 16 août, presque le jour anniversaire de son premier et fructueux premier voyage.

L'Association Free Gaza, association des droits de l'homme, a envoyé deux bateaux à Gaza, en août 2008. C'était les premiers bateaux internationaux à débarquer dans le port en 41 un ans. Depuis août quatre autres voyages ont réussi, faisant témoins parlementaires, travailleurs des droits de l'homme et autres dignitaires des effets de la politique draconienne d'Israël contre les civils de Gaza. Le 30 décembre leur bateaux, le DIGNITY, a été éperonné trois fois par Israël, sur 90 milles marins, dans les eaux internationales, alors qu'il allait livrer du matériel médical au peuple de Gaza, alors sous l'infamante attaque d'Israël .

If you also would like to make yourselves heard, you can call or fax the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and demand that Israel not harm the boat, the passengers or the cargo.

We've just heard from everyone on board the Spirit of Humanity. They are
almost halfway to Gaza, a little over 100 kilometers off the coast of the
Lebanon/Israel border. They're a bit tired, but everyone is in good
spirits and determined to reach Gaza. So far they have not seen any
Israeli warships or had any radio contact with the IDF. You can see their
latest position by clicking on the link below.

At 1:40 am, the Israeli Navy surrounded the SPIRIT while it is on its way to the Gaza Strip. We got a call from the boat saying that they were being threatened, told to turn back or they would be fired on.

Huwaida Arraf, one of the delegation leaders, was on the phone with the Israeli gunboats, and we could hear her saying, "You Cannot Open Fire on Unarmed Civilians" several times. At this writing, they are surrounded by several ships shining bright lights into the SPIRIT.
